The Centre for Environment and Development (CED), established on 29 June 1996, has helped YASHADA position environment and development as a strategic training intervention at the Academy. The Centre has been facilitating training, research and administrative interventions at the district, municipal and State level for the Government of Maharashtra and the Government of India.
The Centre has focused on environmental concerns with planning perspectives in rural, urban and infrastructure sectors for officials, non-officials, university academics and non-government organisations.
The training programmes by CED undertook a splendid transition from classroom programmes to major field research based activities; stakeholder participation and enabling an understanding of the natural resources based development administration.During 1996-2018, the Centre has been able to complete more than 1,325 training programmes, seminars and workshops under the aegis of the Academy. Nearby 40,000 officer and non-officer participants have attended these programmes.
The Centre has taken up diverse programmes, including GIS based training programmes, and department specific programmes for MPCB and Water Supply and Sanitation Department that have been conducted successfully and repeatedly. Most programmes conducted by CED are sponsored and have been appreciated. The initiatives of capacity building and motivation was also extended through conduct of workshops for the states of Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Manipur and Himachal Pradesh.
